Family Vacation

My family is in Wrightsville Beach this week for a mixture of both business and pleasure. My son played in the ocean and sand for the first time and would probably live in them both if we would let him. We’ve dined on mahogany clams and gulf shrimp, flat-iron steaks on the grill and cranberry-orange scones on the hammock. There are homemade ice cream-cookie sandwiches in the freezer and roasted zucchini, pepper and cheddar sandwiches in the fridge. Every evening we walk to the end of the street and watch the sun set, cocktail and toddler in hand. Tonight we dine on herb-crusted, roasted pork loin with rosemary potatoes and caramelized onions and apples. Tomorrow we’re back on the grill with chicken burgers and sweet potato fries. Being back in the home that my husband and I once shared, now with our perfect little boy by our side, I have never been so thankful to be alive and well. This place is magical. I have always heard my father say it and until now I don’t think I believed him. Every complaint, every wound is immediately masked by the power of the sand and sea.
Have a wonderful week everyone!
