Abbey’s Ultimate Money Saving Tips

This is how I shop every single week and I never spend more than $100 each week. This includes toiletries, cleaning products, all beverages, etc. And I save anywhere from $70-$140 every trip. Anyone can do this, it just takes a little extra planning.

#1. Use cash for your groceries. Assign a weekly grocery budget that fits your family and have it in cash. When the cash runs out, there’s no more. Too often, items get put on credit cards and then are forgotten about. This can add up to be more money than you would think. Using cash allows you to see exactly where this money is going and how much you have left.

#2. Only buy what’s on sale that week and combine coupons to match those items for ultimate savings. For example, I go to the store with a ‘what’s on sale’ list only, and have no idea what I will be cooking until I get home and see everything that I have. The same applies to toiletries, etc. Stock up on everything when it goes on sale so you’re never without your essentials.

#3. Write out your weekly mealplan when you get home from the store based on your purchased items and what you already have in stock at home. And stick to this plan. This not only saves you money, but time as well.

#4. Keep your pantry and freezer stocked with items you love to use so you always have those favorite ingredients on hand to add to any meal. For example, always keep lots of onions, garlic, potatoes, carrots, canned beans, pasta, rice, canned tomato products, olives, herbs and spices, etc. These items are commonly featured in recipes.

Thanks for the good tips! I usually collect stickers in singapore, every $15 get one. 12 stickers to exchange for $9 rebate. We can use it to anything that is found in a supermarket. On top of that, i will also use credit card for additional 5% rebate at the end of the month. so that is a different case for us. nonetheless, i like coupons!

I endorse the cash thing wholeheartedly. We live in a small town and shop mostly at the general store or the farm stand so the shopping when things are on sale doesn't work for us, but SOME DAY. Thanks, Abbey…….

Wow, ladyhomechef- you're a long way away from me! But it sounds like you're doing a great job!

And I love the way you're able to shop, Tinky. I really admire that! We all just have to do what we can to keep our family afloat!
